I have this tree in my back yard that appears to be dying. Can anyone tell me what kind of tree it is? I can take more pictures (e.g. picture of the bark, leaves, etc.) if that will help. Thanks!

My initial reaction to the questoin "what kind of tree is this?" is "a tree which needs to be chopped down". It ain't ever coming back so don't even fantasize over it.

"...appears to be dying...." is a very good observation. Some more images will help us identify this for you, but it really needs to be removed. When did this decline begin?

that is a dead tree ... what more do you need to know.. remove it.. before it fails and crushes the barn .. at least its not hovering over the house ... is that pile of brush to the right of it.. all the branches that have already fallen out of it??? if you do any gardening.. that is about 10 yards of FREE wood chips ... i would never let them drive away with them .... ken

That looks like you are showing a partial leaf - it appears to be a compound leaf with several leaflets. It might be an Ash. Here is a link to pictures of leaves.
Here is a link that might be useful: Ash

So you're a Ravens fan. But does that indicate that you live in Baltimore? And is emerald ash borer active in the Baltimore region? Not that that is the only thing that could be killing an ash tree, but that's what you've got, some kind of ash. It is certainly beyond recovery. +oM

BRF23, sorry but even Joe Flacco couldn't help your tree. Look on the bright side, do you know what kind of wood baseball bats are made from? Do you know any woodworkers? sam_md

Baltimore is positive for emerald ash borer, unfortunately.
