too late for root pruning?

Is it too late to root prune shrubs and small trees I plan on transplanting this fall? The ground is not really frozen until December, and I have planted as late as the end of October and (smaller) trees and shrubs generally make it to spriing.I usually mulch around the trunk, but not to the trunk, in mid december.

hmmmm...

so you want to shock the heck out of it 9/1 ..

and then what.. move it 10/1 ...

i say skip it.. just one shock.. just go for it ...

BTW ... you dont mention what shrub ...

if its any of the 'run it over with the truck' shrubs.. why double your work ..

i cant grow cornus mas.... tried twice.. many many years ago.. gave up ... no clue why ... on either ... [why they died.. or why i gave up]

so.. as far as my experience rules.. its a foo foo plant... i would not move it... lol ... nor bother with an 8 foot tree ...

life is to short to work that hard ....

someone else will have to guide you ....

but i still would not root prune it.. a month in advance of moving anything.... that should have been done one and two years back ....

Yes: as indicated no point in cutting roots twice.
