I know they have a variable habit.

The plant is fairly invasive as well so you'd have to stick with a male cultivar like Phellodendron amurense Macho

My young ones haven't liked the drought for the past couple years, when established probably will be fine. I like the similar looking beebee tree more. Both seem to be resistant to the deer destruction I am having.

I have got one, but it isn't that exciting. There are many other mid-sized shade trees I would rather choose.

I like mine. It was the size of a finger when I planted it. Shot straight up. It is now almost 10 yrs old an at least 25 ft tall. It is still somewhat narrow, but it is very symmetrical and starting to spread out. Attracts lots of bees. Leaves always look healthy. Only thing I don't care for is the lack of any fall color.

I have fall color, an yellow-green that almost seem fluorescent in dusk. It is getting color very early, probably starting in about three weeks

Mine are a nice yellowish greenish color already from the drought, kind of like a yellow that is saying help me, I am dying.

I planted one of them near a gazebo, mostly for the bark interest. It's a decent tree and I've had no issues with it. It's attractive, has the effect I wanted. I planted it mostly because I was collecting more unusual trees at the time not common to the retail market and this one had the attributes I needed so it went in. I don't see anything overwhelmingly pro or con about it.
