I live in zone 6. This is a large "clump" tree, not a single trunk. It is quite tall- about 12 feet. I'm a novice!
Thanks for your help. |

Thank you! So is this what I would ask for if I call a nursery to see if they have one? Sorry if this is a dumb question but every tree I look at has 3 names, and being new to this, I'm confused! Are there any other similar trees if I can't find this? Thanks for your help |

| Magnolia virginiana (vir-gin-ee-AY-nuh) is the correct and only Latin name of this plant. The common name is Sweetbay Magnolia. It's better to use the Latin name. |

| A common name is sweet bay magnolia - along with silver bay, white laurel, beaver tree, swamp laurel, swamp sassafras, white bay and swamp bay. Hence the development of Latin binomials. Such as Magnolia virginiana. |

| It's kind of funny that 2 of us would be asking about the same tree only a couple days apart. |

| I saw the ones I was asking about in O'Fallon Illinois at the Drury Inn and Suites. |

Lovestogrow- it is funny! I saw your post but didn't think it was the same plant- guess that's the beginner in me! I saw this one- huge and absolutely beautiful- outside a church near Pittsburgh. I'm sure it has been there for a long time. Thanks everyone for your responses. I need to choose a tree along with other shrubs for my bare front yard. I'll start another post and maybe you pros could comment on my selections. Thanks again! |
