Some Good News!

After Hurricane Katrina in 2005 I lost hundreds of trees on my 5 1/2 wooded acres. As if that wasn't bad enough, the dogwoods, most of which survived the hurricane, being small, began a massive die-off. I don't know if this was a result of the hurricane or if anthracnose just coincidentally infected them at this time.
Anyway, I'd been carrying off one dead dogwood after the other, and I'm not the only one - others in this area have experienced the same thing, and recent springs have been almost totally absent dogwood blooms in the woods.

I noticed this spring that several previously dying dogwoods were making healthy new growth, with zero additional dying limbs. So far, knock on wood, they've held up, and the new growth is staying put, not dying back. I hope this trend continues next spring! I don't understand what caused the die-off, and I certainly don't understand why they're returning, but I'm glad to report that they are doing so.

Has anybody else noticed this in their area?

Sherry
