I'd say it's a Poplar--just off the top of my head..Populus(sp?)family?

My guess is Cottonwood.

any recollection of it snowing in later spring... a week or two of near inability to breath near it???

presuming of course.. you live near it ... as compared to hiking around

Thnx guys. Just moved to where the tree is but I'll look out in spring. I'm kinda leaning cottonwood now.

A Populus at any rate. Lombardy poplar has been much planted and produces triangular leaves.

If it is a Poplar Tree, look for the greenish yellow flowers in the spring. With large trees they can easily be missed.

The Poplars I know have catkins. I wonder if you are thinking of 'Tulip Poplar' knuttel? Liriodendron tulipifera and not related to Poplar ie Populus.
