Populus tremuloides, bark coloration?

I've noticed that the wild P. tremuloides in this cool but damp mountainous area have a more "light olive" bark color, compared to specimens 2 hour drive away in a colder/drier climate that have silvery-white bark.

I've been unable to find any actual records of different subspecies and wondering if it is climate influenced?

I'd like to plant a small grove of the lighter colored specimens here. Do you think it's worth the drive to collect unique genetics or will they end up turning olive? Thanks!

Where are you at? Closely related bigtooth aspen often has light-olive colored bark.

Quaking aspen tends to be gray in my area, when you go over the mountains to the sunnier and drier climate there it becomes white.
