Apparently the European beech are dwarfed on that site. It seems the Golden Desert ash can hardly be told from 'Jaspidea' (see Jacobson, North American Landscape Trees). The weeping elm shown here looks like it could be the rare 'Horizontalis' instead of the common 'Camperdownii'. See North American Landscape Trees for description.

Thanks for sharing. Awesome bark on the Ulmus parvifolia 'Hallelujah'. Any plans to return in the fall after they begin to color up?

No, but everyone's doing it! Funny cause I just did the same thing at the Milwaukee Arb.

Ron, 'Riversii' was really struggling & coincidentally had an enormous seed crop. 'Camperdownii' ... I think you are correct.

Yikes, is that a bee or wasp on your hand in the last picture?

Did you see Acer pseudosieboldianum x palmatum 'Hasselkus' aka Northern Glow Maple there?

RE:Lou

Lou, I didn't & I didn't tour the whole grounds either & it was just a bee.

You've been busy posting away those pics!

That Aesculus turbinata has extremely clean foliage this time of year. Per your suggestion I planted a seedling that really took off for me. Looking forward to having a specimen as shown. I believe this plant gets nice yellow fall color.

Boy that Korean Maple is looking quite nice. I hear alot of mixed comments of that plant surviving around here. Not because of hardiness but more so drainage.

Acer truncatum. I also have a seedling that took off for me. I'm patiently awaiting what its going to do this winter. Did the plant appear to have limited dieback? Some local folks say it struggles in borderline zone 5 but my source (who started it from seed) says its hardy to zone 4.

U of MN arboretum has a nice Acer truncatum.

 o
RE: Assorted Photos: U of Madison Arboretum Longnecker Gardens

Glad you all enjoyed of course.

Will, no dieback on truncatum. Your soil being sandy and rocky outta make excellent culture for Acer pseudosieboldianum and really all plants for that matter.

Those are cool trees...too bad the blight wipes them out.

 o

Doesn't look like the blight has wiped those out!
