two young maple trees

I brought two young maple trees for shade, now I am wondering if I planted them too close. I don't want them over power g each other. I was thinking if I planted them the way I did the one closest to the lagoon would be on a angle and as they grow I would have enough shade. Planted them this week, she I have planted them further apart? As you can see there is another maple tree near the lagoon. On the upper left.

I don't think they're too close, what is that about 10-12 feet? If they're the same kind of maple they should grow at about the same rate and not overpower each other. In the distant future their upper branches will probably merge, but that's not a problem. It all depends what look you're hoping to achieve.

they could have been planted in the same hole.. and thrived ..

your spacing is fine... unless you simply want to do it all over again ...
