Will aspens grow here?

I LOOVE aspens. They are just BEAUTIFUL AND they grow fast. I'm wanting to use them as a privacy fence on one side of our yard. Need them to spread about 70-90 feet. I'm estimating 4-5 aspens for good cover. The aspens I'm looking at are $100 a piece so I wanna make sure that these trees are going to live. I read that they like sandy soil which we have plenty of in our backyard. Temperatures range from 15 degrees in our coldest days and 110 on the hottest days.

The answer to your question is: are there any around you?

Cultivar 'Harvest Gold' is your hope, and they sucker like crazy and live short lives. I wouldn't get my hopes up, as they are a crapshoot, and around here most look ratty. In their natural habitat we love them too.

Probably way too far south and a sandy soil probably all the worse - here the apparently native patches are all in wetlands. It's a poplar, after all. You'd probably be better off planting something else with pale bark, that was locally successful.

Never pay 100 dollars for an aspen tree. These shoot right up, there is no need to buy big ones. And the underground spread of this species, where successful, is indefinite - you don't need to start with a bunch of them to end up with a bunch of stems later. There are places where stands covering whole hillsides have turned out to be a single clone.
