Fungus on Cherry Tree

JoeGu

I have two flowering Kwanzan cherry trees which were planted about 6 years ago. They flowered only the first two years but have shown some growth since planted. This year they both started to lose some leaves in July. We have had a fairly mild and moist summer for the Chicago area. They haven't lost any more leaves over the last month. I have noticed a white fungus type growth in layers on the lenticels on both trees over the last 5-7 weeks. It is only on the north facing side of the trees. From what I've read on-line this could be a fatal problem but I'm hoping not. Also one tree has a jelly-like blob oozing from the trunk. Is there anything I should do to try and save them? I've attached photos of one tree to show the north side fungus and a full picture of the tree which looks pretty healthy except where some have fallen off about midway on the upper branches. Thanks for any professional advice!
