Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of asian pear tree would be suitable/flourish in Methuen MA. It's zone 5B and it will get plenty of sun in the summer because I have a huge backyard. Also, I am planning on getting two so could someone refer me two trees that would do well with each other (crosspollinate?). Any help would be great and very appreciated :)

Surely your County Extension has a list that has the tried-and-true vars that grow best in your area.

UMass Extension does a LOT of research on fruit. Dan's right; they can definitely provide lots of info. Here is their contact info:

Korean Giant aka Olympic aka Dan Bae is the best of any I've tried to date. Most reliable in fruiting, best fruit quality, the fruit can keep up to a year in cold storage. The fruit quality is the same whether thinned or not, and actually because the fruit is naturally so big, I think its better not to thin them. Other varieties I've tried MUST be thinned, or the pears are very small, flavorless, and not sweet.
