| Just noticed that my dogwood had buds a few weeks back Thought it was odd, thought it was maybe new berries starting. They were planted this Feb, I watered them 1 in per week, and a little more since it got nasty hot and dry. But not enough to cause root rot. I check the moisture with my finger into the soil and all was fine. I posted pics when they leaves and tops of trees were looking like crap. Everyone here said it was sun scald. Now that we have had some good rain, and cooler weather, they started to put out new leaves, and flowers, but its Sep! I haven't fert them yet, but have done the grass and flowers that are about 3' away about 3 months ago. Are my trees confused? Is this going to kill them when frost hits with all the unhardened wood.
Full sun, but about 8' from my house on the north side, so the soil around them is now in the shade with the suns shift. Soil is loam, with clay about 2'down Planted them Feb, a little late, but what you gonna do about it now? I was a newbie. Was told they had sun scald a few months back by you guys. Mulch is about 2 in deep, and about 2 in away from the tree trunk, Planted at the right height. Pics if you want them.

| Newly-planted, responding to stress and new environmental cues. Not a problem. I ripped the grass out of the treelawn and planted perennials this spring, have some spring-blooming woodies still going. Dan |

| Sweet, Thanks. Hope they do better next season! |
| What kind of dogwood? Pacific dogwood often blooms in fall, it has been used to produce new hybrids at Rutgers. |
| They are both Stellar Pinks, kousa florida |
| Flowering Dogwoods create buds in the fall for the next spring. They won't bloom until the spring. Our dogwoods have blooms too. |
| They are both Stellar Pinks, kousa florida I think you mean Cornus x 'Stellar Pink'. It is a hybrid of Cornus florida (a native) and Cornus kousa (an asian dogwood). Just wanted to clarify. |
| Cool, thanks! They are in full on bloom. Thought the buds would stay closed, but they are open and pink. |
| In addition to the locally native dogwood various other kinds of trees and shrubs that set overwintering flower buds may be seen opening a percentage of them prematurely during some autumns here. |
| Woops...meant to say ours are in bud too. Didn't realize yours were blooming?! |
