Cone-tainers

On a strong recommendation I invested in a good supply of Cone-tainers from Stuewe's in which to start my tree seedlings. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to remove the seedlings without disturbing the roots. Please, can anyone provide me with hints?

I've never used them before. Maybe check with the people over in the Propagation Forum. I don't see how they be of very much help in growing tree seedlings though. They're pretty small.

Actually, I need help not sarcasm--I put the link in only so you know what I'm talking about. I'm basically an idiot--out of money--cannot afford to invest in another propagating system--and now have all these seedlings I can't get out of their containers without killing them--hardly an endorsement. I'm only a poor collector, not rich like most of you, but at least I thought I could get a little help. However, these are widely used in the industry so obviously I'm missing something.

See my post above (in case you missed it).

Take a pair of small scissors and cut from the bottom hole up the side. Do both sides if necessary and peel the container off. If your trying to save or re-use then try rolling between your hands with a bit of pressure starting from the bottom and working your way up.

Sorry about the rude welcome!

Rlv4 mentioned rolling the tube in your hands, and I'd recommend that, too.
Also, you can try extracting the tree-plug by using a kabob skewer or similar dowel
pushed up through the drainage holes at the bottom.

The roots growing out of the holes are supposed to be air pruned anyways, so I would just take a sharp knife and shave them off, just make sure the seedlings are dormant when you do this.

quercus, have you tried contacting the company about this? I see that there is an 800 number on the website. I'll bet that if you can email or talk with someone there, you'll get some help. Good advice here, too.

I've always had very good experiences when I call a manufacturer for more information regarding their product. They want you to be successful.
