older persimmon tree not dropping fruit

ToonFarm

I just purchased a 100 year old farm house on 8 acres about three years ago. In the middle of the front yard is a very old persimmon tree. it is about 4ft8in around at the base and just over 25ft tall, that is if my tree measuring skills are still remotely valid. this tree produces hundreds of fruits but so far each year only about a quarter of them fall after they ripen, the remainder hang on until they rot and then later do eventually fall in mid winter, to the great delight of the hungry deer. Is there anything I might be able to do to get my tree to drop more fruits when they first ripen?
