Tree identification help

Just moved into a new house. Have an apple tree that we think was grafted onto another root system. But there is something else growing off one branch from the main root. Small round red and hard things. Leafs are different on this part of tree than the apple part. We have no idea what they are and if we should leave it or cut that shoot off? Also, What kind of Apple is it. See pics.

Crabapple and a regular apple grafted together? Do we cut the crabapple part off or leave it?

It's very possible that the crabapple was the original tree and the apple grew from the rootstock. The shoots or suckers from the rootstock are often more vigorous and can outgrow the original tree. The apples produced from the rootstock would probably not be very good quality. I would cut the apple and save the crabapple.
