| there is a fruit forum.. and i have never seen the fruit experts here ... growing a crop requires a schedule of spraying a multitude of chemicals.. from prior to leaf out.. thru late summer ... and that is why i dont do fruit as a hobby ... talk to those peeps.. they will get you all set .. ken |

| I think most all the fruit experts visit this forum too. Some of the regulars here probably know more about fruit trees than a good part of the regulars in the Fruit and Orchards Forum. But, that forum may indeed be a more targeted forum for the question. Matthew, the symptoms you describe and the damage shown in the picture are highly typical of codling moth damage. I'd say you hit a home run with your guess. If there are things that make you question the diagnosis, your local county agricultural extension agent would probably be your best easily-available resource. And about the treatment/prevention, doing a search of the Fruit and Orchards Forum will definitely turn up a variety of options...from footsies (yes, those sock-like things shoe stores use for people trying on new shoes) to Surround/kaolin clay and to multiple chemical options. Again, your local county extension agent might be able to share what seems to work best for people in your area. |
