the real concern.. is how good the tree looks right now.. many of the older varieties are subject to fireblight and other leaf disease.. that the newer ones are not ...

they are all glorious for week in spring.. but some could be replaced if they are really ugly in summer...

To get in the vicinity of an identification you should also indicate how big the fruits are - already we see that Ken appears to think this is a flowering crab-apple, with small fruits, whereas I thought it was supposed to be an orchard apple, with larger fruits.

When attempting to name found flowering crab-apples the characteristics of the leaves, flowers and fruits all become relevant.

There are also orchard type crab-apples grown, with fruits too small to be classed as apples but otherwise looking like apple trees.
