which tree should i get ?

I have an eastern red bud that is dying (I'm fairly certain from root rot) and will likely be replacing the poor thing this coming spring. I live in zone 8 (central Texas Killeen area), my soil is very clay centric, and the area i want to plant in is in direct sunlight all day so it gets a lot of summer heat. I need to find a tree that can thrive under these conditions, is resistant (immune would be great lol) to fungal diseases such as root rot, and is drought resistant as it can be quite dry here during summers. Lastly i don't want anything larger than a medium sized tree (like a mature eastern red bud) and something that flowers is preferred. So what do you all recommend? I'm some what of a newbie so any recommendations and guidance would be much appreciated, thanks!

Desert willow (chilopsis linearis) should work there. Can get over 30ft, but most seem to stay under 25ft on our side of Dallas. Tolerant of CRR and does fine in clay, but needs well drained location.

Pomegranate
Pineapple Guava (more of a large shrub that can get medium tree-sized)
Black Mulberry (keep away from any structures due to invasive roots)
Fig (grows lower and wider with invasive roots)
Saucer Magnolia
Vitex (large shrub that can get small tree-sized)

I am kind of digging that shantung maple. It seems to be a very hardy plant from what I have read. And it is also not as common here so I will have something special. The one thing ive noticed is I cant find them at the few local shops , and I cant find prices online. Anyone have any info on pricing and availability in central Texas?
