I have recently seen a beautiful flowering tree which is called, here in Mexico, Pala de Mula which means " foot of the mule" because of the shape of the leaves. Can anyone give me more information about this tree. The blooms look like orchids and have a wonderful light fragrance.

I could only find two references to Pata de Mula regarding a tree. One mentions that orchid-like flower. No pictures. Unless someone can do a better job than I of digging up a Latin name for Pata de Mula, I think we're going to have to ask for some decent images.

Could it be a Bauhinia? That appears to be known as Pata de Vaca and Casco de Mula according to the link.

Here is a link that might be useful: Pata de Mula

Character combination of tropical, flowers like orchids and leaves like mule feet definitely points to Bauhinia.
