The white sepals -
The tree in the natural reserve -
A shy bloomer sometimes, the flowers look somewhat like lacecap hydrangea. |

| I see it's listed as being hardy in Zones 6-9. What about Fall color? I've never seen it before. Mike |

| any chance of getting seed from this tree? |
|
| Needs a hot summer and a long time (decades in some instances) to start blooming. I've grown it since 1985 but have not seen flowers, however my specimen has been subject to mishaps. E.H. Wilson called it something like "the glory of the Chinese forests". That's quite a statement, considering the competition. Was at a few local retail outlets when Piroche Plants was in business, sending them down from B.C. Mine came as a single node (two leaves and two buds) cutting from Woodlanders, well before Piroche starting importing seedlings from China. I believe Woodlanders got it from the Hillier Arboretum. |
