They are each about 1 foot long. Should I prune out one now or wait until it is dormant. Thanks!

i usually wait until the new budding in spring.. just to make sure winter didnt kill the one i am leaving.. and i end up taking the good one off ... i bet.. someone will suggest that that is prime sap flow and not the best time ... or its too close to bug season.. whatever ... when it all boils down.. i usually do it.. when i happen to walk by with the pole pruner.. and happen to look up.. and remember to do it ... lol .. and often.. that is years later ... lol there is a conifer forum .. should you wish to be enabled .... how big is your NS??? ken

I would do it in early spring, when the frost is over but it has not yet started to grow. But just as Ken Adrian writes you can propably do it whenever you want. As long as you dont cut it off below the lowest needles it will survive whatever you do to it. Norway spruce is the most common tree species around here, so I have got a lot of experience. I have cut down thousands, in all sizes ;)

Prune it whenever, though Ken's suggestion of waiting until spring to make sure one survived winter is not a bad idea.

Thanks to all for responding. I think waiting is a great idea just in case one gets damaged in winter. Never thought of it that way.
