Elderly couple buys plant at flea market, tended to it lovingly

The only problem is the absolutely gorgeous, albeit gigantic shrub in their front yard was a Cannabis plant, and it had to be seized. No charges were filed. The cops tweeted the picture of it. lol

See link for photo. In the comments they are saying this plant had to have been pruned, because cannabis is not normally this round..

I could see myself doing something like that, having no idea was a pot plant looks like. lol

P.S One of the comments said that plant would've smelled badly, is that true? I know pot smells when you smoke it, but do the plants themselves smell when you grow it?

They absolutely can smell, during the budding stage.

Yes, you wouldn't expect this species of plant to be for sale at a flea market. Yet they planted it out in public view, right? Why would they do that, if they knew what it was?

You would be surprised at the number of people who could not identify a cannabis plant, including some members of law enforcment. I know that for a fact, because I had a group of potted cleome plants at a farmer's market and a deputy was on me like paper on a wall, insisting they were pot. If I had been able to stop laughing long enough to answer he would have probably acted on it. He was just enough unsure of himself he gave it up and moved on.

"Yet they planted it out in public view, right?" It was in the back garden, so not on view. In which case how did the police find it? There's an incinerator in the picture. Maybe they burned the prunings and someone caught wind of it ... literally;-)

Yes - but those are ilovemytrees' words. The link doesn't say anything about the front. Some UK reports actually mention the back garden, others don't say where it was. Plus The picture shows what looks like a back garden. The incinerator, empty plant pot, concrete and tall fence all say back garden to me.

There's a story elsewhere recently about Montauk Daisies being confused with Cannabis! They look nothing alike! Granted, in that case the grower had already been convicted a drug related charge. I've never used any controlled substance but the war on drugs is becoming ever more of a farce. As it is I'm afraid to grow a Vitex tree lest some local hayseed think that it's marijuana.

I've never used drugs, cigarettes or even alcohol, but I think pot should be legal and taxed. If alcohol is legal then pot absolutely should be as well. If this elderly couple was on the up and up about their story then it's too bad they have to give up a beautiful shrub all because of police not having enough to do.

Cannabis is not shrubby, it fizzles when it turns cold.

There are some types of hardy hibiscus that could result in trouble with the law (especially when they're not blooming), such as Texas star hibiscus.

I've grown a similar kind, though not in the front yard.
