Recently my red maple and shumard oak have become infested with parasites. Can anyone diagnose the problem and adivise a solution? Trying to post pics, sorry.

Red Maple leaf top and bottom, The tree is 7 feet tall and all leaves are affected.

Bugs on Shumard oak. Tree is about 12 feet tall. All leaves are infested. Fire ants and wasps seem to like them though. Theres also some black stuff on the bark.

The red maple -- don't know the pest/malady -- but it's the end of the season, so it's pointless to spray or otherwise treat for leaves which will soon drop naturally.

The shumard oak -- Aphids. Again same reason for no treatment as above. But if you absolutely must do something, wash the critters off with a harsh water spray.
Ants & wasps like the aphiads because they produce sugary honeydew.
The black on the bark may be honeydew which is supporting sooty mold. The mold isn't a disease but is "feeding" on the sugars in the honeydew.

Thanks a bunch. Glad to know it's not serious.

Will they likely return next summer?
