| Neighbor pulled up the tree the city planted and put his own monster. In about 2 yrs it was huge and he trims the branches back to the base 2-3 times a year. Anyone know what it is? I can't find it on google.
It "weeps" like this as it grows in, but the leaves are different and the trunk is thicker: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alpima/7598500306/
According to this, it is not a poplar:

Eh, darn sticky fingers can not copy the link during lunch time on the semi smart phone. Could it be the hated empress tree? Tell him you are going to plant bamboo, nutsedge and dandelions up and down the property line.

it looks like paulownia tomentosa to me, too. gardeners do cut them back regularly so the leaves grow larger and create a tropical presence. |
RE: Please ID tree

Appears to be a pollarded Paulownia. As long as it's being pollarded regularly it will not be flowering and seeding. He's presumably going for the tropical effect as jeff_al said.

Thank you. I have a turkey platter that is smaller than these leaves.

Ditto to Paulownia tomentosa; not a Catalpa. Resin

Ye, it could be Catalpa. Mrs 1101 - do you have a picture which has not had the colour manipulated? Is that the true hue of the leaves?

Are you saying that this picture is not the real tree that you are trying to id: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alpima/7598500306/ ?

esh_ga, that is not the actual tree. I'd post a pic of actual tree, but the hurricane left the tree naked.

flora_UK, the leaves are that dark.
