I recently purchased a John Pair Caddo maple from Forest Farm. However, when I got the tree the leaves just don't look right. I have ordered some of these before, but they died, so I have seen the leaves in person, as well as many pictures online.

My question is, "Is the tree I got a John Pair, or something different?" In my opinion, it looks more like an Acer Nigrum, which they also happen to sell. They undersides of the leaves are hairy along the veins, like black maples and the leaves look more 3-lobed and droopy.

I have sent Forest Farm an email with the pictures I am showing here, but haven't heard back from them as of yet and I would like a second opinion.
