Palo Verde Trees

I have 2 Palo Verde trees (thorned) on my property.

1. What are the disadvantages of this tree?

2. What are the advantages of this tree?

3. How low should the bottom branches be on the trunk?

4. Can I trim this tree aggressively?

5. These trees seem to grow quickly. Can I slow down
their growth?

6. Do these trees seek out & damage water & sewer lines?

7. When is the best time to trim these trees?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to decide
whether I should keep these trees or replace them with
something else.

Thanks for any input

RE: Palo Verde Trees

1. It will need trimming to attain a tree-like look. Its looks may be a detriment - not a typical looking tree.
2. It is native, the state tree of Arizona, drought-resistant, adapted to your area most likely, depending of course on exactly where you are at in Arizona.
3. This is dependent on what you want. If it were me I would probably be aiming for 6 feet of trunk before the branches start so I could walk under-neath and enjoy the shade. On the other hand you might want the bushier look with limbs all the way down to the ground.
4. Its best to remove no more than 1/4 of the trees foliage in any given year as a general rule.
5. Don't provide any additional water.
6 & 7 unknown.
My 2 cents of advice.
