What is this 'stuff' on the trunk of the pine tree??

Looks like dried pine sap on an eastern white pine.. I don't think it is anything to worry about. Lets see what others say though..

Are those round holes at the top, now filled with resin? Could be from sapsucker or woodpecker drilling.

Probably White Pine Blister Rust Cronartium ribicola.

as as signed above.. it is resin or pine sap bleeding out..

apparently resin didnt want to tell you it is resin...

whats that all about.. lol ..

The main symptom of WPBR is extensive resin bleeding over large patches of bark like this, particularly at the times of year when the fungus isn't actively sporulating (when spore bodies also appear).

Well, that sent me searching and I came up with the link below as others no doubt have too. Scary stuff! There are some interesting points that explain why this tree might have been vulnerable, things that might affect how people in affected areas maintain their landscapes.

And it sounds like this tree is a goner, doesn't it?
