What ever it is... please repot it into a larger pot...

It appears to be Polyscias - a tender house plant.

i would take the suggested latin name.. and add PROPAGATION ... and use google ....

and find out if you can start a few new.. small.. vigorous plants ...

and then get rid of this tired old monster ...

i doubt you will ever make this thing look good ... starting with the pot .. the media.. repotting.. etc ...

there is a houseplant forum.. that i understand is pretty active... you will get much better .. specific advice there ...

Probably Polyscias scutellaria. GOOD LUCK with getting it to look decent. I'm afraid that it appears to be a very unfortunate specimen.

Looks like it just needs some TLC.

Good lighting from an East, West or South window.

A repot with good soil. Larger container.

No fertilizer until new growth has commenced and even then, only 1/4 strength until plant as bounced back -- if it does.

I would suspect you were gifted this as it became too large for somebody's previous location. I would also suspect you could take a lopper and cut the whole thing back to a foot or two and it would break along the stems. I've done that with many large houseplants and they branched profusely enough the stubs were well hidden.

I totally agree with Calliope. OFF with its head! If you learn how to repot into a good potting medium, I strongly suspect that you will be rewarded.
