Whats wrong with my Maple ?

I was curious if this is life threatening or will it heal itself . The tree was not damaged or hit by anything . I want to say its a Sunset Maple.

Looks like sunscald. Fairly common on red maple cultivars located in full sun. Sunscald can be prevented but once it occurs, there really is nothing that you can do about it. Just monitor it for pests that may appear (bugs and fungi) and treat accordingly.
