Did I miss the seed maturation of Sassafrass?

As the title says did I miss the seeds or are they not seeding this year? I went and checked where I knew there were some Sassafrass trees and found not a one seed. My Peterson field guide says Sept-Oct for seed maturaturation.I checked before, they were not early. Ours are not affected by the disease or pest someone mentioned on another thread. I will look again in another area tommorrow.

I found some on August 23rd here in the Lehigh Valley (Hellertown). I could see that a large %age of the seeds already dropped. I checked another stand of trees a few days later, and the seeds were gone. I could see the stems that held the fruits, so I know they were there. This is the first year I looked at that time, and the first year I saw seeds. There weren't many, and most of the trees I looked at had none.

I went out looking again, no seeds. Well, if they were early where your at in Pa, I probably missed it here too. I will try again next year.

Poaky1, the local sassafras have had next to nil seed production (at least to maturation) around here the last two years. I have looked long and far and nothing to show for my efforts. Just bad bad conditions across much of the eastern US the last couple years.

I did purchase one recently. If it lives long enough to produce seed, I will make sure to ask you if you want any.
