Quercus Nigra is my guess on the 2nd leaf and Overcup oak on the first leaf example. I am guessing on these ID's.

The first is a red oak, most likely laurel oak. Definitely not over up as the leaf tips have mucros. The second is definitely nigra.

If you look at images of Quercus nigra leaves, you'll see examples of both leaves. I've seen both on the same tree many times.....an interesting challenge for someone trying to teach plant ID classes at the local college, lol.

Good point Rhizo - juvenile leaves of both laurifolia/hemisphaerica and nigra are similar and are easily confused.

I'm with cuz'n rhizo - both look like Q.nigra to me, and it'd be pretty common in that area.

Just to mention, one of the biggest trunked (not height) trees at the z6 VA State Arb near Winchester was a shock to me -- water oak! 3 ft in diameter w/massive lower limbs. So water oak can thrive in z6.

That has made me want to try at least one in a soggy area of my yard in- yes, zone 6 Pa.
