its yours to do as you wish ... perhaps due to space constraints ...... but my point simply.. dont make assumptions ... as your presumption is the first reason i bought most of these type plants... to watch the 'skirt' develop .... to have the plants that one might say.. look like a puddling melting candle .. lol.. never thought of that one before ...

Yes, you can grow it in your climate. Once established, it will appreciate both the heat and the dry summer conditions.

However, I believe you may be underestimating the growth this tree can produce......it is not the height that is of issue but the width. These guys can sprawl over a considerable distance. And while they can be pruned, IME it takes a particularly deft hand to be able to keep them to a smaller size without looking butchered. And there is no need to keep the pendulous branches off the ground - it is very typical for these trees to develop long 'skirts'.

fwiw, to my knowledge there is NO dwarf form of this tree - it is just Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca Pendula'. The height is determined by training - the rest is just genetics :-))

There are photos of one in France - perhaps the original variant - that would fill an entire city lot, and then some.

There's a blue weeping Arizona cypress; that might stay smaller.

I had to have this gorgeous tree but am aware of its horizontal sprawl--which is why I keep my dwarfed outside in a large wine barrel. Yes, being from Morocco, they should do fine in Southern Cal. but surprising perhaps, this tree historically has performed really well for years in the humid, WET, East as well!

P.S., also have its more vertical growing kin but in the ground.
