| Hi all,
I bought a new home and I am interested in planting a number of trees in the wooded area between my home and two of my neighbors. A picture is included. Browsing this forum I have found that Green Giants are great for this application, however I would appreciate the suggestion of another variety or two. Also planting suggestions would be appreciated, especially considering that I would be planting them in an already wooded area. Thank you very much for your kind attention, |

| IMHO ... your privacy screen.. goes in front of the wooded area ... NOT in it ... that spruce??? was perfectly placed to screen neither of the neighbors of the houses.. lol .. GG might live.. but not perform to specs.. IN the woods ... its impossible to name the trees you have.. and that would be very important in discussing the ease of establishing plants IN the woods .... where are you.. i presume you do not want deciduous... but other than that.. what are you thinking??? conifers.. trees?? .. shrubs?? .. flowering shrubs???? i am thinking.. at this point with little facts.. a couple larger conifers in front of the woods .. which will grow much faster in full sun ..... strategically placed for max screening... and perhaps some understory flowering things in the woods ... like rhodie, azalea, and or red bud ... ken |

| Hi Ken, My new home is in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Creating a screen in front of the wood line makes sense, but I didn't want a "screen" per se. I was thinking of placing the filler trees/bushes/shrubs in the woods so as to make it look like I didn't have a screened look, but I see the point of needing to know the surrounding trees in the wooded area, which I don't know as I have not even moved in yet! I noticed that spruce in an odd location too. I don't know what the previous owners were thinking of placing it there. lol. I was planning on moving it, again preferably in the wooded area. I was hoping something along the lines of conifers to keep the cover in winter, and I am not set on any specific selection; tree, bush, shrub. I would do a few of each if it would work and look natural. I do like your idea of just a few strategically located conifers at the wood line and some flowering bushes/shrubs in the woods. I will note the rhodie, azalea, and/or red bud ideas to use in the wooded area. Perhaps I will use them all, or maybe just the cheapest. Any other thoughts or suggestions would be great. |

| Have you thought about some understory plants? They could be flowering, large box woods, etc. From the picture it looks like a couple of Hydrangeas would fill the hole and hid the neighbors car and garage. Besides it would look pretty. Depending on the orientation you maybe able to put in a couple of lilac. Maybe a dogwood, redbud, etc, depending on how much space there is the areas is. I am sure if you spend some time in the big box stores or nurseries they are many plant that would fit into the understory to make an invisible screen in that area. |
