Caddo maple chlorosis

I have a few seed grown caddos from Oklahoma that I recently got growing in the wild and potted into some gritty mix and now they have all gotten chlorotic.
I was under the impression that they were supposed to be very alkaline-tolerant and not succumb to chlorosis. I haven't done a pH test of the mix they are in, but I assume it should be pretty neutral (fir bark, crushed granite, diatomaceous earth.)
Could they possibly be too wet? I watered them thoroughly the first and second day and the mix is still pretty moist and hasn't dried out yet. I have read that they can suffer if too moist. This is my only guess. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
