apple tree

We saw a little apple tree in France (Giverny - where Monet lived). It was full of tiny apples, less than one inch. They tasted like apples and looked like it.
We have no idea what species that could be. We are looking for a little tree, we want to plant instaed of our robinia pseudoacacia (which died of honey funghi).
Any advice is appriciated.
Regards
Martina&Erich

Unless someone is familiar with the trees planted at that site, it's anyone's guess. If I were you, I'd ask about small edible apple varieties in the Fruit and Orchards Forum. There are a number of regulars there that I'm sure could give you some recommendations and probably tell you more than you'd ever want to know about small apples/edible crabapples.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fruit and Orchards Forum
