I've really struggled with selecting an Oak for my landscape. Mainly lack of an ornamental feature and wilt present in the area.
Considering the above is there an Oak you'd recommend? I really like the habit of the Swamp White Oak, but I don't want it to struggle in my slightly alkaline soil.
I then thought of Bur Oak, which has an amazing branching structure.
I just feel the leaves turn brown and then hang on.
I can get both varieties in a good size for a good price.
now... that i have you looking away from all green trees .... let me tell you... that FINDING them.. is going to be the new hobby ... you arent going to find them locally .... and maybe not even mail order...
and if you do.. you will be paying quite a lot for a one or two foot plant.. plus shipping ...
but you will have a treasure.. that will bring you many years of joy.. and curl your toes as some guy likes to say ... lol
also.. grafting season is coming up... SOMETIMES you can ask for a plant to be grafted for shipping early next fall ... should there be no older stock available ...
and.. this is the time to talk to your local nursery.. he is setting orders for next season ... gotta get that truck from iseli .... HAVE HIM ORDER IT FOR YOU ... you just arent going to stumble upon most of these ...
that old post.. when i reloaded the pix for you.. they popped back into the old post.. which i presume you found with google.. go figure ...
