I think this is a Tilia - do you?

| I am pretty sure from looking at the twigs that this is a Tilia. But the leaves are more heart shaped than the ones I am familiar with, almost like a mulberry. The habit is short and broad as you see. Growing in a park (ie planted and non-native) in SW UK and photographed 3 days ago. It is still green while many trees around are either coloured are bare. |

| Might be; might also be several other things (including Black Mulberry), the pic is too small to identify it. Can you get some close-ups of the foliage? Also fruit, if any present. Resin |

| If it is a Tilia, that's a most unusual growth form for that normally conical genus. +oM |

Is this a multi-stem plant? Might be a T. cordata that lost its top early in life? I've seen very roundish T. codatas (on a regular stem). Leaves about the same size, but as resin suggests, detailed pix. hortster |

| No fruit, Resin. I'll try to get some more pictures. |

| Take photos of a shoot with leaves showing both the upper side and the under side. Resin |

| I'm afraid it was dusk by the time I got back to the park, so pictures are not great. There is a trunk under the canopy and the branches start at shoulder height. As you can see there is some contortion of the branches. There are no suckers, no vestiges of fruit or flowers and the buds are small and just vaguely brown. No scent. Leaves feel like lime, slightly rough beneath. Not hairy. Toothed. Similar size to common lime trees I see around her but more heart shaped.

Sure looks mulberry-ish to me. Stem and leaves. hortster |

| Yep, definitely a mulberry; looks more like White Mulberry Morus alba than Black Mulberry M. nigra. Resin |

| Thanks, everyone. I'll have to keep my eye on it next year and see if it fruits. No sign of it having done so this year. |

| It's been a very poor year for fruit on a lot of trees this year in Britain, so that's no great surprise. Resin |
