| A week after hurricane Sandy, we got a winter storm that dumped 8-9 inches of snow. This happened at the peak of fall season and the snow was somewhat wet, causing more damage in my garden than what the hurricane did! A beautiful Chinese fringe tree, which hadn't shed its leaves, was devastated. Likewise, a Loebner magnolia lost a huge limb that was laden with buds. The list continues. A major branch of a native dogwood tree cracked. I am wondering if any of you have suggestions on restoring the damage. The crack is longitudinal, right along the middle of the branch. Its length is slightly more than a foot. The widest part of the crack is about 3/8th inch. See two pictures below.

| cut it off at the trunk ... and be done with it .. yes .. it will be 'out of shape' for a few years... but it will recover.. and a NEW SHAPE.. will come from it all .. with perhaps some future pruning ... a pic of the whole.. MIGHT change my mind ... but i doubt it ... i dont buy all the voodoo fixes ... i believe in a healthy tree.. thru proper pruning of damaged branches ... good luck ken |

| sorry about that limb. As ken suggested prune it to the trunk. It will have no problem recovering. But beware some new growth may be a bit "weak" some may not be totally supported. |
