Can i transplant my little gem magnolia this weekend?

I got a little gem magnolia about a month ago. It is about 3 feet tall. I just removed it from the pot and stuck it in the ground. I did cut through a large root. Anyways, i would like to move the tree to the front yard now. Is it a good time to transplant it? The trunk is less than an inch thick.

I want to move it so it will be in full sun and so it will not hit the power lines that are about 10 ft above it.

You are good to go. Move it at your convenience. I planted one this time last year through that rough winter we had and it didn't flinch.

go for it ..

follow all directions at the link ..

including bare rooting ... and unwinding the roots if need be ...

and insure its planted at the proper depth ...

i cant tell if your black stuff was a mulch.. or soil amendment.. but it looks too high on the bark ...

why did you cut a large root????

The black stuff is mulch. I cut a large root because it was circling around the root mass.
