Bare trunk on a dogwood

Posted by rober49 (My Page) on

the previous owner of our house used a grass cutting service that was not very careful around trees. there is 1 dogwood that has an area 4" tall that goes a little over 1/2 way around the trunk. the trunk has an 8" diameter & is is 10' tall. the area has healed but is bare wood, no bark heal-over. is there anything i can or should do to keep the tree healthy?

ignore it..

trees take care of themselves..

a pic would sure help explain what you mean when you say it healed itself.. without bark: the area has healed but is bare wood, no bark
