Is it okay to move a few small evergreen trees and shrubs at this time of year. Its beautiful weather mid 50's and will be throughout the week. Freezing in mornings but mid day lovely and great working weather.SOil is just wonderful. So should I wait to do my moving til spring or is it okay to do it now? Normally we have snow and ground freezing.

w/o specificity as to what you are moving.. its hard to tell you much ...

does your soil freeze..

i think you are meaning.. frost in the morning ...

perfect z5 moving was basically october.. you are running real late.. does your ground freeze..

the issue is whether they have enough stored water.. to last thru the entire winter.. with the major impact of cutting off most of the roots ... should winter be extremely dry ...

if it 'had to be done' .. i would say go for it..

if you can wait.. i would say 'wait' until ground thaw in april ...

more facts.. better answers..

Yes soil freezes! I am in Utah! But honestly like spring these days. We had a couple days of snow first of month now this. I moved a red twig dogwood bush and a three foot pine tree this after noon. Okay I will wait to do the rest til spring. I thought I was pushing it. Should have asked BEFORE I moved them today. I tried to get a good root ball . I tell you hearing Christmas music on radio and watching folks haul home Christmas trees seems so strange in this weather.
