Small, low-branching tree planted in front of a church in Baltimore County. The tree blooms late in the season and has smooth bark.

Can you name it?

Looks a bit like my Bottlebrush buckeye, except for the scalloped leaf-edges, and too many leaflets. So that's not it.

RE: Unknown Tree

Can you take a picture of the bundle scar from a newly removed leaf?

Tree of heaven maybe? It looks so similar except for the texture of the leaves. I'm sure it must be in the same family. But it does look beautiful those trees usually are ratty and have a drab characteristic to my neighbors lol

I would go with nearly same guess as pineresin, but not shiny, so I guess it is Rhus chinensis.

RE: Unknown Tree

Tree-of-heaven?...not even close unless there's another tree called that, that I'm not aware of.

I think Rhus chinensis is likely.

RE: Unknown Tree

yeah tree of heaven is its actual name sounds weird but it is true. Still uncertain about the species. My friend made the terrible mistake to think of it being a black walnut tree XD

RE: Unknown Tree

I think brandon is quite familiar with Ailanthus' common name... ;)

A rhus is all I can think of either...

RE: Unknown Tree

Gardenapprentice, you might want to google-image 'tree of heaven'. Sam's tree doesn't even resemble it.

RE: Unknown Tree

Rhus chinensis is propably right, it seems to have those strange "winged" leaf stalks.
