Yes, it might be one of the many examples of Freeman maple - both spontaneous hybrid seedlings and named clonal selections.

After further research, I think it might be a standard Acer Rubrum. The yellow foliage is throwing me off.

Could definitely just be a plain Acer rubrum - many do turn yellow in fall.

Yep. I've got a 'volunteer' M.rubra in a nursery bed - no doubt about its identity, that I was thinking about transplanting to the yard - but it only goes yellow - no red. So...I'll pass on giving it a coveted spot in the landscape.

Depends on whether or not those longer, more pointy lobes on some of the leaves indicate silver maple involvement.

I wouldn't pass up that yellow either. I think some of the nicest shows this fall have been with the vibrant yellows. I was pleasantly surprised with one of my magnolias who put on a bright show. I think one can overdo reds, and the golds and yellows really make red ones pop.

When I was in the forest in SW VA, ALL the forest red maples turned yellow w/only an occasional trace of red.
