Moderately fast. I've seen them do 2-3' per year, but they seem to take. Few years to get going.

If you didn't correct wayward roots destined to be problematic at planting time, you might be seeing the impact. If you did bare-root and correct potential issues, forgive me and forget what I said.

My beech trees is growing about 2' a year but they are volunteers growing in poor, shallow soil. In richer soil wih some clay, in a slope with lots of ground water, they will grow faster. But they are slow when they are young and speeds up when they reach 5-7' or something like that.

Thanks everybody, Tapla, my Beech was barerooted when I dug it up, the roots should be fine, Hairmetal and Huggorm, I'll just figure it is at least twice the growth rate as the American Beech. P(oaky1
