| But not being familiar with the genus in any way I don't know how to identify it farther. It was donated to the park system perhaps 20 years ago and I have no idea where I was at the time but no species ever got logged in the file we keep on park trees. It was just called a "cut-leaf beech". It is located in a rather unused park of one of the parks and it seems healthy but growth is extremely slow. I do know of other beeches planted in the area but as far as I know none none have ever lived. Next spring perhaps I can post a picture of leaves but am curious if there is usually more of one species commonly called "cut-leaf beech". |

| Cutleaf beech is customarily Fagus sylvatica f. laciniata. This botanical designation embraces multiple cultivars, the most prevalent of which is fernleaf beech ('Asplenifolia'). The others are significantly less likely to be encountered. |

| here are pix of Fagus sylvatica Asplenifolia perhaps you can find some fallen leaves to compare... otherwise what are the odds we will remember in spring.. lol and yes.. all beech .. for being trees .. are very slow ... IMHO .. i see in these pix.. taken in mid june.. a growth rate of about 1 foot ... ken |
