| Hello,
What appears to be minor damage to a small branch (1/2 inch diameter) is resulting in a lot of sap running down the tree -- so much so that I noticed it from the upstairs window. Anything I should do? Thanks!

| You have squirrels around? Nothing to do about it. I think it is normal this time of year to bleed like that. Some trees bleed more than others in response to injury, too. This is a bleeding species. Watch and see if it callouses over the wound next year. |

| Must be closely related to sugar maple! Really what can u do. Even if u prune off the branch it will bleed from there. I guess you could put a fan blowing on the wound to dry it out. Carb cleaner on the wound would probably dry it out also bit would have to cause more damage. |

| yes.. there is something to do .... it has to be PROPERLY PRUNED ... and removed ... and then you ignore the NORMAL weeping involved with pruning ... if it were mine.. i would also prune it up ... so i wouldnt poke my eyes out on it ... when i walk around the yard ... but i suspect you have other uses for your low trees ... with the neighbors this close ... one thing i will note .. you have a huge forest tree planted very close to your house ... you might want to think about replacing it with plants more properly sized to your site ... if i were in that circumstance.. i would plant some other things... that will block the view to the neighbors ... so that they get established... and growing .. so that in a couple years that tree can be removed.. while i could still do it for free .. or ignore it.. your choice ... ken |
