Also what are these protrusions along the trunk of my tree?

This is my new krauter vesuvius tree. I noticed that along the trunk of the tree there are protrusions.
They look like the flower buds that are on the branches but they are all along the trunk of the tree....
Does anyone know what they are?
Here is a pic of them with a close up on the left.
