I've found several of these nuts in my backyard, but don't know what they're from. No shell, no stems, etc. Any ideas?

Better pics would help, but with what we have to work with, I concur with hrigsby in that hickory is most likely.

Why do you want to know?

RE: Nut ID

Thanks! Hickory it is, probably shagbark.

I ask because the nuts are unlike any I see from trees in my yard or across the street. There are some hickories in the area, so my squirrel friends must have left me some treats!

They are saying "Nuts to you!".
