Marking capped sprinklers

I'm going to convert part of my lawn to a play area for the kids, and intend to cap off some of the sprinklers. Eventually, I might want those sprinklers again. What can I do now to make them easier to find later? Some kind of magnet? Save the coordinates of my GPS?

You could drive a large nail, bolt or short piece of rebar next to each one of them. Then, they would be easy to find with a metal detector.
